When you want to look your best, you not only dress well
but also let make up do what it can for you. The pivotal point of the
face is the eyes and there is so much that you can do to attain that
glamorous look. Of the many tools that aid you in the process, eye
shadow tops the list. It flatters the shape of your eyes, enhances their
color and sets the trend for a wonderful outing. It is important then
that you take proper care while applying eye shadow. Eye shadows are available in the form of creams and gels, sticks, pencils and even powders. These pearly matte texture powders are perhaps the most popular because of the effect they produce when applied with a wet brush. If you happen to have dry lids, go in for oil or wax based cream shadows, and in case you have an oily skin use a gel. Straight brushes with bristles for application and round ones for blending are ideal. Always use a couple of colors at least. Pale shades for the brow area and basic colors for the lids should work out. The shades should take into consideration the color of the hair and eyes and the tone of the skin also and where more than one color is being used, choose colors that blend well. This guarantees a natural look. If you want to avoid creasing use loose powder over the eye shadow. Cream eye shadows can be used in combination with the ordinary powder eye shadows. There are shimmering eye shadows which can be used to add overall glitter and make that evening a special one. As eye shadows are meant to emphasize the eyes, you can make it achieve the kind of look that you want. If you want your eyes to look bigger go in for light shades over the lids and resort to darker shades at the outer corners. Highlight the inner corners and you get a “closely set eyes” look. A combination of light and medium shades produces a pleasant effect. Before applying the eye shadow, use a foundation on the eyelids. This helps to spread the eye shadow easily. The lightest shade of eye shadow can act as foundation. Use a medium color for the lower part of the lid and use the darkest shade to bring some depth into the make up. When applied to the lash line and to the outer corners of the eyes, it serves dual purpose creating depth and also functioning as eyeliner. If your aim is to acquire a professional look, a light eyes shadow will do, but for the evening out or a party, preferably use three colors that match with each other. Always commence from the inner side of the eyes and move outwards. Ensure that the movement is in a straight line. While blending colors use an upward motion so that the upper portions of the lids are lighter in color. While lining your eyes use the darkest eye shadow from among the three colors that you have chosen. If you have blue eyes, violet, gray and brown eye shadows are wonderful, but if you have green eyes use gold or yellow eye shadow. For a dark skin, purple or coca brown eye shadow works best. Use the eye shadow skillfully and watch the compliments that flow your way. In India, we find that people are veering towards plant extracts using eye shadow that contains castor oil. Some Indian companies are also using other natural extracts like beeswax and carnauba wax instead of castor oil. ~ Author Mini Swami.
