eye make up

Our eyes are mirrors that reflect, pools that depict changing emotions and oceans that are mysterious as they are profound.  It is important then that we look after our eyes and enhance their luster and eye make up does just that. Eye make up is not a recent phenomena, it has evolved right from time immemorial in India and in Egypt. It is supposed to be a talisman, a charm that frightens away evil. Since it was supposed to protect the eyes, Indian and Egyptian women lavishly decorated their eyes. What perhaps has changed over the years is the fact that a mini revolution has changed the face of eye make up. No longer was it merely applying 'kajal' as Indian women did and still do, it goes way beyond this. The eyelids, the eyelashes, the eyebrows all come in for different sorts of treatment. The ultimate aim of all this is to produce ravishing eyes which are depicted to be the mirrors of the individual.

The eyebrows are the frames for the eye and need to be taken care of. A thick look to the eyebrow can be achieved with an eyebrow gel, or an eyebrow pencil. While choosing the color of the pencil, it is best to go along with what nature has endowed you with in order to prevent the eyebrows from appearing to be far from genuine. The end effect of the application should be one of softness and the pencil should preferably follow the contours of the eyebrow. Eye defining pencils bring the lower lashes into play and properly used adds a soft blended look accentuating the curves adding a widening effect to the eyes. Eyeliners are available in the liquid form also but could be messy if not used judiciously.  The herbal liners manufactured in India contain oil of almond, neem and camphor. This is a big advantage as the drying and flaking experienced in the normal eyeliners is totally absent.

Eye shadow is used for a different purpose. It highlights the beauty of the eyes and adds depth. Eye shadows are available in dark and light shades. A dark eye shadow used on the lid makes the eye to appear smaller while a lighter shade makes them appear to be larger.  Available as creams, sticks and in the powder form, bristle brushes and blending brushes help to achieve the desired effect. A combination of different colors of eye shadow can have astounding effects.

Mascara well applied can produce alluring eyelashes. There are waterproof and smudge proof mascaras and applied with the aid of eyelash curlers, the eyes are transformed into whirlpools of radiance. If you happen to be one of those who do not have long and curly eyelashes, do not fret. There are eyelash extensions and eyelash curlers to remedy the defect. Sparkling shimmers and glitter help to produce that soft dewy look and can add a touch of glamour to the eyes. Available in many colors, a myriad of eye make up options are there for the asking. There are even concealers that hide minor blemishes and take care of those eternal dark circles under the eye. So whether the eyes are puffy, sore, red or lusterless, there is a solution that brings back the glitter and transforms the eyes into pools of cryptic delight.

After having gone through all that trouble of having applied the makeup, it is equally important that we remove it before retiring to bed. The lashes remain healthy and the eyes retain their natural luster. The removers come in the form of gels and lotions and also as eye pads. Olive oil, Vaseline or even baby shampoo act as conditioners and removers. The use of eye cream regularly compensates for the absence of oil glands below the eyes. Be careful though while choosing eye colors. See that they go along with the color of your skin. While applying mascara, eyeliners or eye shadow use judiciously depending on whether you have small eyes or wide ones. Also ensure that the eye pencils do not become too soft. Always apply eye shadow starting from the inside corners. Eat healthy, drink lots of water, elevate your head when you sleep, exercise your eye muscles and you will have eyes that are worth looking at. ~ Author Mini Swami.
