mascara

Just imagine  --you’ve gone through a lot of trouble to apply make up to your eyes but have forgotten the mascara! ----the finishing touch. Mascara is an absolute necessity as just a little bit can do a world of wonder,. It is almost like a magic wand that you wave and voila--- your eyes become beautiful. So what does this magic potion do? It thickens the lashes, darkens them and adds that wee bit of length that is so alluring. Do apply mascara only after you use the eyeliner but before doing so, separate the lashes using a comb. Thin, even coats—at least two—are usually sufficient.

There are length enhancing mascaras which are good if you have short lashes, but if you longer ones, go in for a curling mascara. Thin lashes gain volume with mascaras that contain a thickening ingredient. The polymers and wax present in such mascaras help to thicken them.  If you are one of those whose lashes are blond, use a combination of volume gaining mascara and the lengthening mascara. While applying mascara, ensure that the tips are also covered. Mascara is usually applied with a “ mascara wand” that has bristles that are short in nature and packed close together.

Astonishing as it may seem, a range of mascaras is available and for the untutored mind it may seem awesome. Basically however there are 3 different kinds - water based, waterproof and a mixed variety. The last one is perhaps the most common and perhaps the most versatile type of mascara. Water-soluble mascaras are easy to apply, easy to remove but woe betide if you come into contact with water in any form. It will just run and smudge. There are some water-soluble mascaras which do not live up to their name, so watch out when you go in form them. Price is not always a factor that can gauge the quality of the product--- some mascara got from a drug store may be even cheaper and better. In India, mascara is paving the way for kohl to enter the market. Fruit packs and cucumber packs are also used-- especially under the eye. As there is no risk of allergy, Indian women prefer kohl and fruit and vegetable packs over chemical mascara. Shahnaz Husain has produced liquid eye make up packs which help the growth of eyelashes The packs contain among other things- gooseberry, almond oil neem and trifala. As these are natural products Indian girls and women do feel very comfortable using them.

The waterproof variety does not react with water and hence is smudge proof. The disadvantage however is that once applied, it refuses to come off easily. Pulling and wiping hard around the delicate area of the eye tends to cause the skin to sag. Moisturizers used on the skin can cause such mascaras to break down and the result is catastrophe. The word waterproof does not mean that this mascara will not smear. So do exercise caution and keep it for a special occasion rather than for daily use. Mascaras come in different shades but brown and brown black are voted to be the best. Cosmetic mascara has a wider range extending from black, brown, gray to blue and other colors. There is hypoallergenic mascara for those who are allergic to many things. Test the mascara before you use it, if you itch or get a rash—change it immediately. Do not take any chances

When you apply mascara, lift you chin a little in such a way that your lashes are visible in the mirror. Use a spiral brush, dip it into the bottle, swirl it slightly removing the excess and use first on the upper lashes. Start with the base working towards the tip, curl the lashes in the upward direction. For the lower lashes work downward, moving the brush slightly so that the lashes do not stick. Work on it a couple of times to add volume. For all those novices who manage to have more mascara on the eyelids than the lashes, do not fret. Just wait for it to dry and scoop it out with a sponge. Do not apply too much mascara, the result is sloppy and smudgy. If you desire to have curly lashes, always curl before mascara is applied and never after.

Just as you remove all make up before going to bed, do remove mascara too. Use tissue or cotton wads to wipe the mascara before washing your eyes with water. If the mascara gets too old, get rid of it without any qualms. Such Mascara thrown away is eyesight gained.
