Both in India and in Egypt although
cosmetics was used to adorn the face, it was also meant to ward off the
glare from the sun. Indian women used kohl as eyeliner as a form of
protection. The eyeliner when properly applied defines the eyes and
flatters its shape. The effect of kohl is indeed stunning. The soft
illusion that it creates adds balance to the features of the face and
also creates a sense of evenly spaced eyes. However, with the passage of
time, as people became more busy there was a need for make -up which did
not have to be applied daily. Many individuals also suffered from
allergies and physical disabilities that precluded them from resorting
to the commonly available forms of eyeliners. It was then that this
concept of permanent make- up caught on. Permanent eyeliner will stay
with you for quite a long time, will never smear when you wash your face
and will withstand the onslaught of nature’s fury. A manna from heaven? Permanent eyeliners can create the kind of look that you actually want. Depending on whether you want a softened look, a professional look or a smudgy look, or a look that really flatters your features---the permanent eyeliner can do it all. The best thing about it is that the effect lasts a long time and you are saved all that time and bother in front of the mirror. The technique adopted to create permanent eyeliner is called as micro pigmentation. The device used is hand held. Using a thin needle the skin is punctured at a very rapid rate and the organic pigment is forced in beneath the skin. This pigment adds the permanent color. This intradermal pigmentation as it is often called produces a very natural effect. The disadvantage here is that the organic pigment used is a kind of ink that usually has a high concentration of metals. So if sometime in the future you have to have an MRI done, it may not be totally safe. As the MRI uses a magnetic field, it is likely to attract the metal used in the eyeliner. What is still more disturbing is that the radio frequency, which works in combination with the magnetic field, could also interact with the metals producing heat energy. This could cause burns. That aside, the thought of having hassle free days without the bother of makeup is indeed tempting. The concept is fast catching on even in India, so three hips and a hurrah for permanent eyeliner.~ Author Mini Swami.
