In India, to become a cardiologist, first you need to study science subjects (physics, chemistry and biology) at the plus-two level and after then you will need to get through MBBS entrance examination. The MBBS programme is usually of four-and-a-half-year followed by compulsory one-year internship training. Additionally, to qualify as MD, you will require to work as a junior resident in internal medicine for three years. The final stage is of joining a three-year DM programme or even the DNB in cardiology. As you complete the all these requirements, you officially become a cardiologist. India has shortage of qualified cardiologists so demand for them is very high. India also has high numbers of cardiovascular related diseases.
