Electrical engineer

Electrical engineers are so very essential for our technological advancement. The way technology has kept improving, demand for eligible and qualified electrical engineers is also on rise. The demand for qualified engineers is directly proportional to demand for new gadgets, devices and advanced electrical components. In general, an electrical engineer can perform many potential job functions. An electrical engineer can work on several products at the same time including things as complicated as airline navigation systems, robotics, global positioning systems and power generation systems and as common as medical technology, cellular phones, radio, televisions and handheld gaming systems. It can be safely assumed that electrical engineers are integral to the advancement of technology and the improvement of electrical items.

Talking about functions performed by electrical engineers, they design, develop and test electrical and electronic components, equipment, devices and systems. They are also into supervising the manufacturing and implementation or installation of electrical components. These professionals are responsible for all of the electrical products that we use in our daily lives. This is one profession where people get to work in diverse range of fields like scientific industry, aviation, defense and manufacturing among others. However, most of the electrical engineers tend to specialize in a particular discipline within the field of electrical engineering.

The basic eligibility requirement to enter into the field of electrical engineering is Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) degree from a program approved by the Accreditation Board. The demand is such that most of the newly passed out engineers are taken at entry level positions. However, it is always recommended to get masters and find a specialization. This way, engineers can get the expertise and knowledge. As far as subjects are concerned, most of the undergraduate electrical engineering degrees largely focus on mathematics, sciences, physics, chemistry, computers, general engineering and electrical engineering. These are the core subjects studied by engineering students.

Many professional organizations in advanced countries offer graduate degrees in electrical engineering. Students get the option of specializing in specific areas, such as computer system, electromagnetic, power system engineering, electronics, quantum electronics, automatic controls, electrical power, robotics and signal processing. Students have the option of joining a regular engineering college or they can opt for online degree courses for a reasonable sum. Regular colleges are more beneficial because of the practical experience gained during the study.

According to USA labor bureau, the jobs for electrical engineers are expected to increase by 6% in coming years. There is significant demand for qualified engineers across different industries but there is also a huge competition around the world. Many multinationals are outsourcing the electrical engineering jobs to third world countries. But one thing is certain; as long as we are using electronic items, there can never be any drop in the demand for electrical engineers. Electrical engineers often get good pay package depending upon their level of education and experience, certifications and geographical location. It is definitely an exciting and fulfilling occupation.
