One needs to clear the licensing exam before he/she can start offering his/her services. It will pay to register to a professional association like the American Society of Interior Designers.
An interior designer can opt for any of the interior environments like commercial, residential, leisure, healthcare, education, hospitality or workplace etc. He must be comfortable with latest technologies like frequently used computer-aided design (CAD) etc to design sketches for offices, hospitals, schools, hotels, shopping centers, airports, restaurants, theaters and private homes etc.
Those interested in studying Interior Design in India can opt for Bachelor of Fine-Arts (BFA) programs where this subject is offered as a specialization. It’s a 4 year course the basic eligibility for which is successful completion of 10+2 from any recognized school or college. Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology (CEPT) in Ahmadabad also offers a 5 year professional program in interior design. Candidates need to pass 10+2 with Science subjects. Apart from these two, plenty of professional institutions offer part time one year diploma programs in this subject. One can pursue certificate courses in interior design. This field offers plenty of job opportunities to the qualified professional with considerable experience and education. Hotels, resorts, large architectural firms, and building contractors etc are the places where one can look for an attractive job. One can also work independently.
Apart from above mentioned names, interior designers are needed at private design consultancy firms, town planning bureaus, theaters and exhibition organizing companies, public work department and metropolitan and regional development departments etc.
