The career as a life coach must be one of the most satisfying career choices. It is a totally new field and not many people are aware of this profession. The term ‘life coaching’ refers to the process of helping and supporting individuals with non-judgmental views. This aim of a life coach is to assist his/her clients to flourish in their lives both personally and professionally. Though, this is a relatively new field but there is a huge demand for life coaches from a variety of people including sportsperson, celebrities and several others from different walks of life.
A life coach can work on a one-to-one basis with his client or he can work with a team. His primary role is to help his clients in determining and achieving personal or professional goals. He encourages the client to examine his/her life or career in an objective manner and try to acquire new perspectives. Once the client has gathered enough self-awareness, the life coach helps him in zeroing in on his goals. A life coach uses specialized techniques to coach his clients on the process of achieving his desired goals in life. It is a highly complicated but satisfying job. Imagine the high you will feel when you could motivate and guide a person towards achieving his objectives and goals.
It is not an easy task to motivate one’s clients to search and reach their goals. But life coaches do it with variety of techniques and methods. At one point of time, only rich and wealthy people could hire the services of a life coach but now their service are being used widely. Life coaching is not just about therapy sessions or management consulting. They are not counselors either. They possess special skills acquired after years of practice and experience. Life coaching is definitely one of the most specialized professions and that explains why there are so few life coaches.
A life coach has the advantage of working from any place. He or she will decide his/her own work hours and that is surely a privilege, not many jobs can offer. A life coach conducts regular session with his clients. He must be able to connect to his clients. The relationship between a life coach with his client is more like a partnership. One must have the passion for this job only then success will come to him. Many life coaches receive extensive training from expert life coaches or are mentored by them for a substantial period. This prepares them for challenging future assignments and also gives them a clue of how to deal with clients.
Life coaching is not a regulated filed as of now however; one should receive a formal qualification from an International Coaching Federation accredited programme such as the Certificate in Professional Coaching Practice. He or she can also pursue online life coaching courses where subjects like life coaching techniques, life coaching skills, ethics and practicum etc are covered. As far as career options are concerned, one can work independently or work with other Life Coaches or in some naturopathic and holistic clinics. Many large public sector and private sector organizations are also looking for internal coaches or coaching directors who can work with staff from all departments as their clients.
