The profession of Video Jockey first came into existence 2-3 decades back. Arrival of popular music channels announced emergence of video jockey as new career choice. One of the most important qualities of a video jockey is confidence. Without it, it will be difficult to make a career in this field. He should be camera friendly. A video jockey makes the conversations lively. It has been observed that, many music programs are popular just because of the quality and value a VJ brings to the show. His job profile also includes active involvement in the pre-production work. He is required to choose the theme of the program, decide the songs to be played and even prepare the script.

Most of these courses are of short term duration, i.e. 1 month to 6 months. One does not require any technical qualification for courses. Many candidates seek higher studies in mass communication or TV presentation or media management to pursue a career in video jockeying. As far as career prospects are concerned, one can find suitable opportunities in music channels, travel shows, chat shows, or can anchor game shows. A number of VJs also work as RJs or try their hands in modeling or acting.
