Animation has become a successful fast growing industry with the advance of technology. They are rapid display creations of 2-D and 3-D images with illusion of motion. It is originated from the Western countries and is now running very seriously in the Indian industry. Various TV- programs, advertisements, computer games use animation effects in a high quantity in the Indian market. In addition to these, it is used in film animations and in email advertisements with special effects. The most commonly used animation presentations are motion pictures and video programs. Thus, computer animation courses have become the most demanding one in the Indian market. The Indian animation fields are mainly based on making films in private and public sectors. India is focusing towards the South Eastern countries for getting animation works. The Western countries are also favoring India for fulfilling their animation needs, because of its high quality of English speaking manpower, low cost, highly equipped machinery and the usage of popular software package such as 3DS Max and Maya.

The animation project is not done by a single person, but is the result obtained by the effort of a group of people. Thus, the need of different courses is of utter importance.

The various animation courses in India are; 3D animation courses and 2D animation courses, film animation courses, cartoon animation courses and stop motion animation courses. There are several animation institutes in India. National Institute of Design- Ahmadabad, JJ School of Arts, Zee Institute of Creative Arts, academy of animation and games etc are some of the best animation Institutes in India. Both animation degree courses and diploma courses are available in India, where postgraduate diploma courses are very rare. Courses like Certificate in Animation, Gaming, and Visual Effects are of 6 months duration.

The basic qualification for the diploma and degree course is a pass in 12th standard from a recognized board with a minimum mark of 45% and for a PG course the qualification is a bachelor’s degree. In addition to University animation courses, online animation courses are also available. Online classes help the students to know how the courses are conducted. They also provide with free starter demo pack of 3DS Max and Maya, containing tutorials for their projects. The class is usually conducted on Saturdays and weeknights by instructors from New Zealand and California. The computer requirements are; a high speed computer, windows, with intel, Pentium, AMD Athlon XP Processor, Macinthosh Power Mac etc. with CD/DVD-ROM Drive and 3 button mouse. The tuition fees could be paid with credit/debit cards with interest-free monthly installments. The curriculum consists of different modules.

The syllabus of Diploma in animation course is; Introduction to animation, basics in storyboarding, graphic designing, Photoshop, flashes for 2D animation, Principles of animation, Maya, Basics of Compositing, Basic Sound effects and a Final Project. They are given adequate lab facilities with the information on multiple hardware used in this area. They are advised to do a variety of projects throughout the course and a final project to assess their knowledge and potential abilities.

The bachelor’s degree offers the student, success in the visualization of films and televisions towards 3D animations. Students are taught with the basic knowledge of art, animation design, effects in visuals and the method of applying 3D modeling. The training provided includes drawing, making story boards, making 2D animation, editing videos, animation in 3D, textures and lighting, modeling, rigging the characters, composition, motion capture and effects in dynamics. In addition to these, visual effects of film and television, production in video game, visualization in scientific methods and other requirements in 3D graphics are also trained here. Thus, the main objective of these courses is to make the students with the knowledge of skills with the Animation and the Visualization effects.
