Educated woman and domestic violence

While domestic violence is curable, what really lies in a woman’s hand is the power of legal help. The laws are in detail and talk about instances too which protect a woman against abuse. Now though the legal angle is present, there are many reports that exist as initial report and finally stay as a shut case. It is really a wonder as to why educated woman bear the violent acts repeatedly. Each case is different and women are passionate about being home makers. Probably the reason to have a family or social pressure makes them bear the violence.

Continual taunts about having a male child can attract lawful appeal. But for the same, a woman has to emancipate in her thoughts. Family life is very important for all us. A bit of adjustment is required to make this happen but giving into bouts of physical and mental abuse creates more opportunity for submissive behavior. In spite of being qualified, several cases occur where the woman is subjected to heavy trashing or constant taunts by stronger members of her family. The remedy lies in understanding the relationship and analyzing the scope of continuity.

In the initial days of marriage both partners work very hard in expressing themselves. Here we overlook the differences and work as a family. Slowly both partners take each other for granted and in case of physical abuse the woman is generally victimized. The worst situation is when the woman has children and they are the silent spectators to such abuse. Any woman who understands that the situation is changeable must go in for counseling. This will help the abusive person to understand the situation. Failing the same, the woman should seek legal protection.

What really stops a woman from approaching the police or law? This is itself very broad based. The woman may be emotional about the subject. She must be threatened or fearing the life of her children. Another biggest problem is changing the mind set of the community and fearing rejecting of the masses. Maternal family support in most homes appears nil and hence the woman bears the abuse. However educated woman are realizing their self worth and getting to raise their voices.

If things can be worked out via therapy and treatment, it can be done. But severe cases of pretense, false expectations and dominant behavior from the abusive person have to be curtailed. In India, annulling a marriage is still a taboo, but an educated woman can excel in her financial status and making her children understand the situation is just a matter of time.
