Violence at home

 

A violent display at home or display of anger is disturbing for the entire household. With education, life style and exposure, this kind of violent exhibition is less. But there are certain cases of high profile lives which go on silently with domestic violence. Actually the abuser has a series of violent outbursts which again subdue down and gives a chance for the victim to believe that life is normal. But the apologies and gestures of love may seem temporary when the terror strikes again.

With children or elderly person in the household, the family experiences jumbled emotions. What eventually happens is that the children accept this form of behavior in life and go on with a lot of low self esteem. The therapy session is a must for the abusive person and much needed for the victim too. The past occurrences stigmatize an individual and dwarf their social position. A woman is well protected by the Indian domestic violence act. But the violence at home needs to end inorder to allow growth of all individuals in the family.

Several cases of dowry deaths initially begin with taunts about low dowry and subtle demands for cash, vehicle or jewelry. The act provides for punishment of the brutal behavior of people and any act of pressure, insults or threat can be sued in the court of law. But the women or the family has to make a complaint of the same. The one time display of anger may subdue the woman from reporting the same. Out of fear or financial insecurity woman abide by the wishes of the family and the abuser goes scot free.

Violence like bruises of face or limbs may become a way of life. The psychological disposition of the abuser has to be weighed well. It could be the case of schizophrenia which leads to an alter ego and hence the imbalance in the individual could be high. Therapy and medication is certainly available and meanwhile the woman must safeguard herself and her children. Help via police or law is certainly available. It is true that every women irrespective about the culture, caste or geographical abode must get good education and an earning capacity.

Encouragement to rural and backward classes is given by the government via education and small scale industries. Being self reliant creates self esteem which gives power to the women to withstand all the oddities of life. Leading a safe life is important for self esteem.
