AIEEE refers to All India Engineering Entrance Examination. Conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), AIEEE is an all-India common entrance examination for admission to Engineering and Architecture/Planning programmes at the undergraduate level. Some of the prominent participants in AIEEE are National Institutes of Technology (NIT), Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management (IIITM), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIIT), Deemed Universities, Central Government Funded Institutions and some of the other State Institutes. AIEEE was introduced in the year 2002. Appearing candidates are ranked on an all-India basis. Students are given all India rank and state rank. Last year, almost 1 million students took the AIEEE exam and that really tells us the popularity of this exam. AIEEE is one of the most competitive exams in the country.

This year AIEEE exam was held in April end, 2010. To appear in the AIEEE exam, candidates need to pass in the final examination of 10+2 or equivalent. Students appearing in the final exams of XII can also take the AIEEE test. To get admissions into B.E. and B.Tech courses, students need to study subjects like physics and Mathematics and either Chemistry, Biotechnology, Computer Science or Biology. Mathematics is compulsory for students appearing for B.Arch or B. Planning with minimum of 50 % marks in aggregate at 10+2 level.
The exam paper of AIEEE consists of two papers. Students, who desire to pursue B. Tech/B.E program need to take the first paper whereas candidates willing to get into B. Architecture and B. Planning program need to appear in second paper. Students are selected on the basis of their performance in different aspects like imagination, perception, observation, creativity and architectural awareness.
First paper has three segments of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics with multiple choice objective questions of equal weightage. The second paper has three major sections of Mathematics, Aptitude Test and Drawing. Students have the option of choosing from either English or Hindi medium. AIEEE has provision for negative marking so candidates need to be very careful while answering the question. Each paper is of three hours duration.
