IIMs and IITs are the jewels of Indian education system. The tag of these two names spells success and glory. Imagine, the premier technology institutes of India offering quality management programs! The combination of IIT and management is a perfect recipe of achievement. IITs (Indian Institute of Technology) offer management degree courses. JMET (Joint Management Entrance Test) is the entrance exam for gaining admission to the management courses offered by the IITs. JMET is considered as one of the toughest management exams in India. Successful completion of two year full time Postgraduate Degree Program in Management from the IITs can open doors to lifelong opportunities. IITs conduct JMET exam every year.
The point to remember here is that JMET is only a qualifying examination. If you want to get admission in a particular institute, you have to apply separately to the institute. As of now, Post-Graduate Programmes in Management are offered by IISc Bangalore, IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras and IIT Roorkee. JMET is only an entrance exam and students have to perform equally well in subsequent rounds if they wish to be selected in institute of their choice. JMET is an all India entrance test. JMET score is accepted by several other business schools in India apart from IITs. The exam is conducted on a rotational basis by the IITs.
The courses offered by IITs for qualified applicants are;
MBA
PGDM
MBA with focus on Telecommunication Systems Management at IIT Delhi

Master of Business Administration (MBA) at IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras and IIT Roorkee.
JMET is of three hour duration. All the questions are of objective types. There is no fixed syllabus for JMET exam however; students are usually measured on the basis of subjects like,
Data Interpretation
Logical Reasoning
Quantitative Ability
Verbal Communication
There is negative marking for every wrong answer. Candidates are expected to secure some minimum marks in each section of the JMET paper. Shortlisted candidates from the written test are called for personal interview by the respective institutes. As far as eligibility criteria are concerned, it differs from institute to institute. Usually, applicants are required to have a first class Bachelor's degree in engineering/technology or equivalent or first class Master's in any field of Science with minimum of 60% aggregate marks. Students having Bachelor’s degree in Architecture/Pharmacy/Agriculture Engineering can apply to IIT Delhi and IIT Kanpur. If you have a Master’s degree from any recognized university in any discipline then you can apply to IIT Madras and IIT Roorkee.
While applying for JMET, applicants also need to send separate application forms to different IITs and IISc as per their choice. The entrance test is usually conducted during the month of December every year. JMET has many test centres spread across the country. One can obtain the application forms and information brochure from GATE offices of the institutes as well as from the websites of the institutes.
