MCA is a full time degree course of 3 years. The course is usually divided into semesters or trimesters. There are several MCA entrance exams conducted all over the country. There are few centralised entrance tests for MCA like AIMCET (All India Entrance of MCA). To appear in MCA entrance tests, most of the institutes require candidates to have Bachelor’s degree of minimum three years duration in any discipline recognised by the Association of Indian Universities, with minimum of 45% marks in aggregate and should have studied Mathematics or Statistics as one of the subjects at 10+2 level or higher level examination.
Most of the MCA entrance tests have objective type questions. Candidates are asked questions on subjects like mathematics, logical reasoning, quantitative aptitude, fundamentals of IT, computer concepts, computer architecture, operating system basics, English comprehension, verbal and mental ability etc. Students need to prepare hard for MCA entrance exams. Some top institutes like IIT and JNU have questions on programming language. Students need to be prepared for negative marking also. Exam duration can vary from 2 hours to 3 hours depending upon the institute. Candidates should also be prepared for short and long questions in some MCA entrance tests.
