XAT refers to Xavier Admission Test which is a national level MBA entrance exam. XAT exam is conducted by Xavier Labour Relations Institute (XLRI), Jamshedpur. It is a premium MBA entrance exam to get admission into the post graduate management programmes at Xavier Institutes including XLRI. Several Xavier institutes and other reputed business schools accept XAT scores. XAT is considered as the one of the toughest management entrance exams in the country. XLRI is among the top ten MBA institutions in the country. It is known for delivering quality management professionals who go on to join world’s renowned organizations.

One interesting aspect about XAT exam is changing pattern of the questions every year. It is hard for students to guess the exact question structure. However, usually XAT exam paper is segregated into two parts of;
Objective type questions with multiple options. The average number of questions is 200 that are subject to change every year. Students also need to be careful of negative marking. For every wrong answer, one-third mark is deducted. The first part of the paper has questions from Reading Comprehension and Verbal Ability whereas second part pertains to Quantitative Ability, Reasoning and Data Interpretation. The third part measures students on General Knowledge. Students also have to take Essay Writing paper in which they are supposed to write essay on a given topic. The time duration is usually of 20 minutes for essay writing test paper.
In order to appear for XAT MBA exam, candidates need to have passed graduation or its equivalent under 10+2+3 pattern from any recognized university or a deemed university. Students appearing for the final year of their graduation exam can also apply for XAT. The popularity of XAT has increased significantly in last few years. More than 60 institutes are accepting the XAT score.
XAT bulletin can be obtained from the XAT office of XLRI and 120 Branches of Axis Bank spread over various parts of the country. Foreign students can also apply for XAT. Interested students can look for advertisement of XAT form which usually starts appearing in late August. The entrance exam is usually held on the first Sunday of January.
Students need to register for the XAT. They have to fill the XAT form. Candidates can find the form online at www.xlri.edu/xat. Following the instructions, students can obtain their ID and password. XAT conducts the exam at various centres spread all across the country. Candidates can select their convenient cities from the list of city-choices available on the web site.
