Amber pendants are made of the precious stone amber and
are either set in silver or gold. The maximum demand is for amber
jewelry set in silver or sterling silver. This gemstone is basically
fossilized pine tree sap, which hails from the historical eras gone by.
According to gemologists the prime source of amber today is the Baltic States. The amber available from these states is most aged as compared to the other sources of amber, making it a preference amongst buyers. This category of amber is found in Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Poland and Russia. This gemstone is also occasionally found washed onto the shores of the Baltic Sea taking them as far as Denmark, Norway and England. Amber in its original state is also found in Myanmar, Lebanon, Sicily, Mexico, Romania, Germany and Canada. The amber pendants available in India are usually imported from various European countries. However, if one is looking for Indian designs, then the ideal thing to do is to purchase the precious stone and have an Indian jewelry designer set it for you. Along with the pendant you could also opt for a matching pair of earrings to make a complete amber set. Even though amber pendants have not been very popular in India, this stone has been used to adorn the royal families of Europe for over 2000 years. Since it was amongst the more expensive range of precious stones, only noble families could afford to wear it. ~ author Karishma Bajaj.
