If we were to trace the
origin of the Bathing Suits, we would be taken back in time to the 1700s
when the spas were an emerging concept, which people used as a means of
water relaxation.
These spas first appeared in Europe. In the initial few years of its
introduction the spas were used mainly for therapeutic reasons. In those
days early days the members of the opposite sexes never took a dip together.
The ladies always stuck to one side of the beach and men on the other.
Bathing suits at this point of time were totally unheard of. The bathing
suits that were first introduced were a far cry from the thongs and bikinis
that we see today in the name of bathing suits.
In the earlier times, modesty was important an important element and style
wasn't a very important factor. In the early days the bathing suits were not
very practical or comfortable either.
Soon by the mid 1800s, swimming started being considered as a recreational
process. This era also heralded in the revolution of bathing suits as the
Americans happened to discover around this point of time the beach as a
place of recreation and leisure.
This revolution also meant that a change could be brought about in the range
of bathing suits that the women wore. The first feature that was changed was
that the bathing suits became a little more practical.
Soon, more gradual improvements were augmented to the existing styles of the
bathing suits. Soon the improvements bordered towards daringly smaller and
smaller bathing suits, which showed more skin.
Nobody can guess as to how the bathing suits in a 100 years time would look
like. This is because society is changing change very rapidly. However, one
can only hope that the society will still be able to enjoy the process of
bathing at the sea a century from now.
Times have changed and today
swimwear is a fashion segment of its own. Some of the most eminent and
famous designers dedicate entire fashion lines to bathing suits.
