Someone wore a beautiful bead necklace last night. The
beads looked flashy and the metal looked very expensive. It went well
with what she wore. In fact, over the last couple of months you have
noticed that she wears a different necklace every time you meet her.
Each one made of beads that match her clothes. You know she cannot
afford something so expensive and yet, she has it all. Well, instead of
sitting and thinking enviously, why not build your own necklace
collection? For eras together, Indian women have been forced to wear jewelry made from gold. They have had a limited choice stored in their safety vaults, causing them to wear the same necklace for several occasions, for years together. Thankfully, mindsets are changing and so is the situation. Now ladies are allowed to invest in semi-precious jewelry as well as non-precious jewelry. And one such trend are bead necklaces. This necklace that is either made from a single string of beads; or beads embossed on a precious metal; or then several strings of beads hooked together making a larger necklace. Irrespective it is more or less a necessity for every woman to wear a necklace. As a matter of fact a woman is considered incomplete if she has not worn anything around her neck. Married women in India wear a necklace of beads called the 'Mangalsutra'. This literally means the string of good luck, which for her is her marriage. This necklace is made of black and gold beads with a pendant. While this is an essential necklace, for the sake of fashion, one can purchase a variety of necklaces made with beads. The price range of these necklaces varies according to the purity of the semi-precious beads and the metal it is set in. Whereas, gold and platinum are expensive and beyond many peoples’ budget, silver is a preferred metal. In fact one the best gifts you can give someone is their birthstone bead necklace. ~ author Karishma Bajaj.
