hoop earrings

When a girl child is born in India, her ears are pierced in the first few months of her birth. Instead of the gunshot piercing, most families prefer the original wire piercing, whereby the goldsmith makes a tiny hoop for the baby. In days gone by even the boys had their ears pierced, as it was considered a royal symbol. Even boys wore ring shaped earrings.

Hoop earring was one of the most popular fashion accessories worn by women in the sixties and seventies. The trend of this type of earrings was all the more in top gear because of popular Indian film stars like Zeenat Aman, who was also regarded a fashion icon.

Hoop earrings are also a regularly worn fashion accessory amongst the Spanish Gypsies. Their original frilled and layered attire is considered incomplete without the big ring earrings. While the fashion of the hippy generation and the Gypsies called for large hoops, smaller daintier one’s were also worn by many.

While a hoop earring is a trend of the past, today it seems to have been revived in fashion circles. Women of all ages wear these earrings, which are available in varied sizes. They are also made of a variety of materials. You can purchase the gold, silver and platinum round earrings if a precious metal is what you want. You could also purchase hoops for the ears, which are made of plastic. These are available in different colors. In fact you could buy one of each color to match the various outfits in your wardrobes.
