jewelry stores

Jewelry stores in India are quite different from those found abroad.  In India, people belonging to a particular community set up jewelry stores.  In the days of yore, most households used a family jeweler who they trusted.  This jeweler used to be called in whenever there was a celebration, birth, and marriage -  anytime the family wished to order jewelry. The jeweler would then bring samples of designs and after receiving approval on it go on to make the finished product.  This tradition has however, undergone a change with modern times. However, there are some aristocratic families that still continue this tradition.

As times changed, these jewelers began setting up jewelry stores where they exhibited their creations of earrings, bangles, chokers, necklaces, bracelets, ring -  where a customer could just walk in and buy whatever she fancies.  They even under took orders for making jewelry. Jewelry stores, nowadays stock not just gold, but other precious metals and stones.

In the recent years, a new trend has surfaced  -  that of designer jewelry stores. These stores have changed the concept of jewelry buying from being a traditional investment to a fashion statement. These jewelry stores showcase the works of young jewelry designers, and also retail renowned jewelry brands. The jewelry designs available in these stores are unconventional and exclusive.

Jewelry stores in other countries are a class apart as they serve top brass clients. These jewelry stores store priceless collections of diamonds and other precious stones.  They also stock 24 carat gold and diamond watches, original Belgium crystal, silver ware from France, art nouveau pieces from famous houses and museums.

For the every day shopper, departmental stores have special jewelry counters that retail fine jewelry.  There are also special jewelry quarters for those looking for variety and styles. In Mumbai, one can find several small and big jewelry stores located at Opera House and Zaveri Bazar.
