ladies fashion hats

Ladies fashion hats were part of her wardrobe in the earlier centuries.  They could be either small hats or large bonnets that were festooned with enormous ribbons. Turbans were also worn.  There were also hats that were trimmed with feathers and some were even trimmed with ostrich feathers! Over the years, hats became larger, and were embellished with flowers.

One of the styles in Ladies fashion hats was the Leghorn named so after the type of straw used.  It could sometimes be sported with a plumage. It came with a ribbon for a band that was draped off the back of the hat. The hat also had a matching ribbon taped to its edges.

The bonnet dominated as a style for ladies fashion hats in the first half of the 19th century. It was decorated with a lot of ribbons, flowers, feathers and gauze trims that made it look voluminous.  This style made way for other styles known as flower pot and the toque.

In the 30s and the 40s, the style in Ladies fashion hats witnessed higher crowns and small brims.  The war also had an effect, which caused women to adopt the turban.  During the war, styles were abandoned.  In the 60s, wigs replaced the hat.  Ladies fashion hats saw a revival with the late princess of Wales who enjoyed wearing hats and have since then become a kind of status symbol.
