mens sandals

Mens sandals have been around for since the days of primitive man.  In those times man discovered ways to protect the feet by using the skin of animals.  However, as the skin decayed very fast, they began to search for other means of foot covering, which were sometimes the bark of trees or leaves.

From suggestions that have appeared on rock paintings, it appears that early man evolved two basic designs for mens sandals.  One was the thong, which fitted between the toes.  The other was a more sophisticated version, which came with loops and holes, which were attached through the sole.  The sole could be of any material such as wood or leaves. Over time, mens sandals have come a long way.

In the Babylonian times, the sandals the kings wore were made from fine leather with bands of white, gold and red. The Assyrian kings wore sandals, which had an ornamental heelpiece.  The Persian mens sandals were low open-toed shoes, which had triple laces.
During the Renaissance period, mens sandals took a less thong like look and appeared more of a modern look, it was known as tagliate a pezzi or cut to bits.  This sandal had open slits on the top, which allowed the skin to breath while also showing off the wearers hose. It was also a common practice to bequeath their footwear to members of the family, and it has been said that the phrase “following in your fathers footsteps” may have been derived.

Mark Thatcher its been said is the person whos made an impact on the fashion scene with sports sandals.  He designed this prototype as he found the flip-flop sandal getting in the way of his pursuit of white water rafting. This was one that would not leave the foot.  The sandal is called Teva and it comes with a heel strap.  The sandal it is said holds fast even in the most trying circumstances.  The Teva has been selling like hot cakes!

Some of the other mens sandals that have been doing the rounds are: the Terrano Sole, which provides extra cushion comfort especially on rough terrain while the Colorado Sole provides maximum traction in woodland conditions.
