men's designer clothing
|

|
Prior to the advent of the
mid-eighties, men really were not too concerned about their look. They
were satisfied with a small wardrobe with a few clothes and left the
need for excessive clothes for their wives and children. They would
probably go out shopping once or twice a year and buy clothes for the
rest of the year. Men’s designer clothing was unheard of amongst those
who belonged to all classes below the higher or upper classes of
society. Designer clothing was a beyond the reach luxury. But then came the eighties and men became more aware of how they had to present themselves. With increasing media exposure they realized that their wives and girlfriends spent more time and energy talking about and praising the male media icons. Jealousy crept in and every man began to make an effort to be up-to-date with the latest fashion trends and every local tailor took on the responsibility of being a designer. So where the men would just drop by their fabric at the tailor and have stitch a normal shirt, now the men-folk started becoming conscious carrying clipping of styles and cuts to get themselves designer wear; though the label did not matter as much. Yet, present day scenario has another picture to draw. Today, men’s designer clothing has become more of a branded line simply because it is not only a question of a label, but it is about the cut and style. It is not about just putting on a straight shirt and going to the office or wearing a flimsy material shirt and attending a party. Along with the ideal fabric and material it is the fit, which plays an important role. Men’s designer clothing became popular purely because of the prêt porter line which has always been a European rage, but because there was a lot of money to be made, top designers started creating men's clothing which obviously sold at astronomical prices. Though the main stay of mens clothing has always been limited to trousers, shirts, suits, blazers, t-shirts and the nineties saw the advent of sportswear, which a segment where designer wear was unheard of. In spite of these limitations there were lots of permutations and combinations in these lines which led to the modern man becoming a designer clothes horse. Top European design houses have made the men’s designer clothing into a multi-Billion Dollar industry because it has always been touted with lines of elegance in the presence of sheer power. Men of standing even today make it a point to have their designer clothing customized at saville row because at the end of it very few can boast about having this kind of clothing where each garment is worth a Lakhs of Rupees. At the end of it all one sees retro designs cropping up virtually every decade an which only leads you to believe that when you design well it will always sell. ~ Category authored Karishma Bajaj.
