The classic elegance of men’s dress
suits, if well tailored is superlative on a good body. A garment that
was actually created for Royalty, and the well heeled, is now available
easily (though at a price), thanks to advances of engineering in
textiles and fabric processing. Men’s suits are made in different styles such as: The Classic Three Buttoned Suit, The Two-buttoned suit for men with wide mid-riffs, the double breasted suit, the three piece suits - a preference of the Italians and bankers, and the exquisitely fitting three piece double breasted suit. We can never forget the most classic of all - the Indian Jodhpuri suit. In tropical countries, the safari suit gained popularity, as this was more of a Bush-shirt with trousers made from the same fabric, keeping the outfit light and airy. One design that is rarely seen is the long tailed suit, which is something that is worn on very special occasions by royalty. Not to forget the classic tuxedo with rounded lapels and matching bow-tie and Cummer-bund, which is an all-time American evening wear club favorite. A good fitting suit has just the correct fall, lapels with accurate shape, and of course inner breast pockets are a must. Shoulders are padded for shape, depending on the physique of the wearer, and obviously more is used for skinny people. Fabrics of suits are various, depending on the climate of the country for the wearer. Wool is for countries with cold climates, and Linen Suits are meant for warm countries. Raw Silk is used sparingly, depending on the kind of occasion, but is most apt for evening wear, clubs and informal parties. Cotton Suits are a little tacky, and considered rather informal and casual. Then again it depends on the cut and feel of the fabric. One of the most popular fabrics used are superfine merino wool, and cashmere wool. Some of the world’s most expensive suits are made in a location called Saville Row in London, where tailor craftsmen create master-pieces in Dress-Suits, Which cost well over six digits each. Much as the British are credited with making the best mens dress suits, the French and Italians are at the same level, with their couture houses kicking new designs and collections every season. In India, one does not find too many people wearing dress-suits, thanks mainly to the climate, and the cost of these exquisite suits. But mens suit wearers in our country are a class apart. One pet peeve in men's dress suits in India is the embroidering and brocading of Dress Suits, which if done correctly look amazing, but if done without a sense of color, or design, end up making the wearer look extremely tacky and you’d feel that that was a waste of good money. All in all it is always better to stick to the classics. ~ Category authored by Karishma Bajaj. |
