mens outerwear

The facade is supposed to be a prelude to the person inside of it. Men's outerwear is the façade of the 21st century’s male. The feel good factor started off as a political election byline, but obviously it didn’t end there. The ‘metrosexual’ Indian male of this century has vast choices to select outerwear, and to top it he even has the moolah to buy it!  An average man would not be able to classify outerwear beyond shirts, trousers, shorts, t-shirts and a suit.

It’s only the development of our times that leads to the modern male who understands that Mens outerwear consists of various tops like T-shirts, golf, jerseys, tank-tops, sweat-shirts, light cardigans and Magyar t-shirts (very passé though) in knitted men’s tops, and in woven tops choices range in jackets, kurtis, kurtas, sleeveless woven singlets, raglan t-shirts in both short sleeves, full sleeves, shirts - casual, formal, party-shirts, club-wear shirts, Tuxedo Shirts, Pin-tuck shirts, Linen Shirts (the current rage), and obviously the Khaki shirts (evergreen survivors of the woven shirt requisites), the list can be endless. Thanks to advanced developments in the dyeing and weaving industries, choices in designs are almost endless.

As far as Indian fashion is concerned, cotton is by far the best choice for any kind of outerwear, especially because it is the best thing for your skin considering the sultry heat that we have in our country. So, whether it is a T-shirt, Shirt, Kurta or Jacket; if it’s cotton, you can be sure it is affordable not only to the pocket, but also to your health, as it one of the best fabrics in terms of leaving the skin free to breathe, and it has absorbance as an inherent characteristic. Linen is picking up, but it is a very costly alternative that crumples easily, and the purer linen is, the more time consuming it becomes when it comes to maintaining it. Unfortunately, the small composites mills in India produce fabrics that are heavy polyester blends, which when wet with sweat emit a rancid odor that is certainly not a favorite of the fairer sex.

Moving below, leg-wear is another segment of mens outerwear. Alright, the first thing that comes to one’s mind are trousers or Jeans, but it is increasingly difficult to imagine the classic Indian Lungi as leg-wear - it is more or less used to cover the what-you-may-call-it, and obviously keeps parts free breathing. But seriously, in men's outerwear, the ethnic bottoms like Churidars and Lehngas are still popular with the arty people. No doubt the best and most common bottom wear are denims, for all occasions, but it must be noted that for formal occasions, wear them at your own risk of being termed indifferent and uncouth in our country. Today’s choices in trousers range from pleated, to flat fronts, cargos to boot-cuts, chinos to over-dyed drills, where colors of the earth reign supreme.

All in all, men's outerwear offers unlimited choices, and usage is dependant on the moment and occasion. So make sure you wear what the situation and occasion demands.
