Vintage is the hot word on the fashion scene at the moment.
And so our Vintage Prom Dresses.
All the biggest celebrities ranging from
Gwen Stefani to Kelly Osbourne to Renee Zellweger are endorsing the vintage
look and there’s absolutely no reason why you can’t go the same way.
There is something quite romantic
about vintage clothing and accessories.
It definitely has
something to with the fact that their origins are unknown and each item is
totally unique. It is rather drab and monotonous to look like everyone else
in this current era of mass production.
And besides not many of
us can really afford those high-end designer items that claim to provide the
much needed uniqueness to us. That leaves us with the only solution of
spending many hours sorting through designer sales racks.

Nowadays even the movie
stars and most of the modern designers are looking to vintage to spice up
their looks. Vintage prom dresses can be found everywhere but then those
absolutely gorgeous and to-die-for designer vintage prom dresses are
definitely hard to find. All it takes is a little patience to find the right
piece, and it’s worth all the effort. If you do manage to find that unique
vintage piece, then you will be on your way to getting the unique attention
on that “all-too-important” prom night of yours.
With the D-day just around the corner, you wonder what is it
that you can wear to the prom. Something different, something nice that
nobody has. With modern designs flashing in every magazine and designers
thronged by worldly patterns, you can break away from the regular by doing a
vintage prom dress.
Vintage has its own oomph and panache. So cool have been the styles of the
50s to the 80s that designers slowly fall back on them in some pattern of
the other. If you do not like the frilly or the ball gown look you need not
retreat. Infact vintage patterns are broadly spaced out with styles, cuts
and most importantly fabrics that will make you stand out of the rest.
You can break down vintage dresses in a) cocktail dresses b) gowns c) tunics
d) simple mini or midi dress or e) coats and leggings. Now according to your
size pick up a category you think will look best on you. If you are on the
heavy side then mini dresses should be looked into last. Gowns too will
exaggerate your heaviness. What you need is a simple midi dresses or tunics
and leggings. This will thin down your flab and up your shape. The more
intricate you try to make your dress, the heavier you will look.
For those that are slim, you can pick anything that highlights your figure.
Again if you are short then avoid mini dresses or gowns. Pick patterns that
thin the waist and take it forward till the hips and then they can fall. If
you are tall, gowns will only boast your height and make you slimmer.
For those in between - like a large size, need to watch what they pick. Just
don’t choose a pattern because it looks good on the model who is wearing it.
Reason being you are neither thin nor fat. So you have to get into something
that slim’s you where you are fat and highlights where you are thin. Don’t
feel shy to ask for an old dress or just hop around shops trying on dresses.
This will give you an idea about what looks good on you.
Vintage calls for vintage. So accessories have to match the look. From stud
earrings to block necklaces, you can cut a niche for yourself in the frills
that you pick up. You can get bold by mixing modern with vintage. So your
accessories could be new style and your dress old style. However most
important is your hairdo. It will talk volumes of your overall appearance.
It will underline your look, so make sure if you want to look vintage or
modern.
