Telugu film industry is one of the most popular and powerful movie industries in India. As far as number of movies produced every year is concerned, Telugu movie industry is in top three categories. Telugu films have a proud history. During the initial era, most of the movies were based on religious and mythological themes. Soon enough, that popular theme were replaced by emotions based movies. The Telugu film industry thrives on high-pitched drama that has elements of comedy, action, sentiments and drama. Former chief minister of state N T Ramarao was a huge film figure and he had acted in over 300 movies. He was famous for portraying mythological characters.

Telugu film industry belongs to the southern state of Andhra Pradesh. People of the region are extremely passionate about movies and in terms of popularity, industry here gives tough competition to Tamil film industry. The first sound Telugu movie was Bhakta Prahlada that was directed by H.M.Reddy. The movie was released in 1931 and since then Telegu film industry has never looked back. Telegu film industry has been credited with giving us memorable classical movies.

One of the most famous films studious in India, Ramoji Film City is also located in Hyderabad and its services are hired by even top class banners of Bollywood. Some of the famous actors of the state are Chiraneevi, Nagarjuna, Venkatesh, Vijayashanti, Prakash Raj, Mahesh Babu etc. Almost all these stars also dabbled in Hindi cinemas though not without much success. Narsinga Rao is perhaps the most acclaimed director in Telugu film industry. The popularity of regional cinema can be best explained by entrance of superstars of other film industries in Telugu film arena. Top class directors, actors and musicians have tried their hands in Telugu movies and the public here have rewarded them well.

Telugu film industry is blessed with wonderfully talented artists and that augurs well for the future. Some of the recent tops grosser in Hyderabad were Paragu and Bommarillu. Arrival of fresh talents coupled with new technology has further made TTelugu film industry interesting.
