TEN LITTLE FINGERS

I have ten little fingers and they all belong to me (hold up fingers).
I can make them do things, would you like to see?
I can shut them tight (make a fist).
Or open them wide (open them).
I can put them together or make them all hide (interlace fingers).
I can make them jump high (put hands above head).
I can make them go low (put hands on the floor).
I can fold them up quietly and hold them just so! (fold hands together and place on lap).

 

BUTTERFLY

(Sing to the tune of "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star".) (Hook thumbs together and wiggle fingers to look like a butterfly.)

Flutter, flutter butterfly
Floating in the springtime sky
Floating by for all to see
Floating by so merrily
Flutter, flutter, butterfly
Floating in the springtime sky!

 

STICKY BUBBLE GUM

(Shake hands as if shaking excess water off of them) Sticky sticky sticky sticky bubble gum, bubble gum, bubble gum. Sticky sticky sticky sticky bubble gum, sticks right to my (children take turns picking a "body part") eg. tummy/nose/legs/hair. (put hands on tummy)and you pull it, (pretend to pull it), and you pull it, and you pull it away (pull hands away from tummy). (Then start over using a different body part to have your sticky hands stuck to. Then when you're ready to end the song, pretend to wash your hands, turning on the pretend faucet, putting soap on the hands, rinsing and drying off.) All Clean.

  

TICK TOCK CLOCK

You should really play this with one child at a time, unless you are in a place such as a playgroup where all the moms are with their children. Both standing facing forward, the child in front, holding your childs hands and shifting your weight from one foot to the other as you sing.

Tick tock, tick tock, I'm a little cuckoo clock. Tick tock, tick tock. Now it's striking one 'o clock. Tick tock, tick tock. (then as you're saying) "Cuckoo!!" (you lift the child into the air.)

Someone wound up the clock we're going to go a little faster. (Shifting weight a little faster) Tick tock, tick tock, I'm a little cuckoo clock. Tick tock, tick tock. Now it's striking two 'o clock. Tick tock, tick tock. (lift child into the air each time you say) "Cuckoo!! Cuckoo!!"

Oh no!! Someone wound up the clock very tight...we're going to go very fast..... (Now moving to each side much faster) Tick tock, tick, tock, I'm a little cuckoo clock. Tick tock, tick tock, now it's striking three 'o clock. Tick tock, tick tock. "Cuckoo!! Cuckoo!! Cuckoo!!" (Lifting child up each time you say Cuckoo)

  

RING AROUND THE ROSIE

This is a nice twist to the traditinal way. (Walking in a circle, holding hands) Ring around the rosie, a pocket full of posies, ashes, ashes we all fall down. ("fall" to the floor) (Pat hands on the floor as you recite) The cows are in the meadow eating buttercups, squish squash, squish squash we all stand up (stand up).

  

FIVE LITTLE MONKEY'S JUMPING ON THE BED

Begin with 5 fingers splayed and palm away from you, bouncing hand to rhythm of verse...

Five little monkeys Jumping on the bed One fell off and bumped his head (hold up one finger, then rub head) Mommy called the doctor and the doctor said, "NO MORE MONKEYS JUMPING ON THE BED!" (Index finger out, shaking in chastising manner) Four little monkeys... repeat till you have NO MORE MONKEYS JUMPING ON THE BED.

  

FIVE LITTLE PUPPIES

Five little puppies were playing in the sun. (hold up hands,fingers extended) This one saw a rabbit, and he began to run. (bend down first finger) This one saw a butterfly,and he began to race. (bend down secind finger) This one saw a cat,and he began to chase. (bend down third finger) This one tried to catch his tail,and he went round and round. (bend down fourth finger) this one was so quiet,he never made a sound. (bend down thumb)

  

LITTLE ROBIN RED BREAST

(hold up thumb and baby finger, and curl down rest of fingers) Little robin red breast, stay upon a rail niddle, noodle went his head (wiggle thumb for head) wibble, wobble went his tail (wiggle baby finger for tail)

  

LITTLE TURTLE

There was a little turtle (Make fist like turtle) That lived in a box (Draw a box in the air) He swam through the puddles (Pretend to swim) And climbed on the rocks (Walk finger's across child's hair) He snapped at a mosquito (Make snapping motion) He snapped at a flea (Make snapping motion) He snapped at a minnow (Make snapping motion) And he snapped at me (Snap at yourself) He caught the mosquito (Tickle child) He caught the flea (Tickle child again) He caught the minnow (Tickle child yet again) But he didn't catch me !!!!

  

THE BEEHIVE

Here is the bee-hive, (close fist) Where are the bees? Hiding away where nobody sees. They are all coming out now, They are all alive. One! Two! Three! Four! Five! (Stick thumb, first finger, second, etc. on last line.)

  

FIVE LITTLE MONKEYS

(Begin with right hand out, with the back of the hand facing child. 5 fingers should be splayed and wrist is swinging back and forth as you sing...) Five little monkeys Swinging on a tree- Teasing Mr. Alligator, "Can't catch me! Can't catch me!" Along comes Mr. Alligator, (Palms together, opening and closing at wrist) Quiet as can be... SNAP! Clap hands together Four little monkeys... (hand out, back of hand facing child, 4 fingers splayed and swinging) Three little monkeys... etc.

     

WIND THE BOBBIN

Wind, wind, wind the bobbin, (rolling hands) wind, wind wind, the bobbin, Pull, pull, Clap! Clap! Clap! (pull arms out and clap)
