| In today’s busy and stressful existence we tend to forget ourselves completely. We overlook the need for leisure activities. Basically any activity that brings pleasure seems to be postponed for a later date. While it is important to achieve one’s goals, it is even more important to participate in activities that are required for good health, both of the mind and body. Games, whether indoor or outdoor serve the purpose of healthy mind and body. It has been proven time and again that one of the best ways of relieving stress and pent-up frustrations is through some sort of leisure activity. It is all too common that adults always find an excuse for not playing a game; but, children seem to be following the same trend. Always busy studying – from home-to-school-to-home – all they know is that if they want to be successful then books it is all the way. While it may not be possible to spend some time everyday playing a game, but one should at least find time three-to-four times a week to indulge in their favorite game. After all it is all about doing something different from the routine. Amongst the various outdoor games, tennis, badminton and golf require two to four people and minimum equipment. While games like soccer, volleyball, football and baseball require more participants. However, no matter which of these games you indulge in, you gain physically and mentally. These games call for physical movement and excitement because of the competition that is involved. The most popular indoor game is Chess, which actually improves ones strategy building skills. Apart from that there is table-tennis which is usually played indoors. There are a number of card games that are fun when the stakes involved are not to high. Then there are intellectual games like Pictionary and Scrabble, the former played in teams and the latter by individual opponents. Whatever the game maybe, every age group should indulge in one such leisure activity that diverts the mind from the routine strains and worries of life. editor K Bajaj. copyright indianchild.com
