Characterized Content- Content which has been manually reviewed and assigned labels/standards indicating age appropriateness, category and/or Quality. Filtered Browsing- The Online application of intelligent Internet filtering or technology, the purpose of which is to increase protection and productivity while browsing the web and blocking undesirable sites etc. Filtered Search- Intelligent Internet filtering that uses third-party ratings to deliver online navigation providing protection to individuals conducting searches. Results from a filtered search are personalized, and relevant making the Internet useful for all users. Self-Rating or First-Party rating - Websites who voluntary label their own content indicating age, category etc Intelligent Filtering- Applying human intelligence and point of view to the rating and filtering of content. This process permits contextual filtering, however imposes subjective standards to the filtering process. Internet Explorers Society (NetExplorers)- The first Internet-based community to review and rate Internet content and assign ratings opinions based upon loosely defined maturity and quality scales. PICS- Platform for Internet Content Selection is an infrastructure for associating labels with Internet content. It was originally designed to help parents and teachers control what children access on the net, but it also facilitates other uses for labels, including code signing, privacy, and intellectual property rights management. PICS is a platform on which other rating services and filtering software have been built. RSACi (Recreational Software Advisory Council on the Internet)- an independent, non-profit organization that rates the level of sex, nudity, violence and offensive language in websites. The RSACi system has been integrated into various rating systems and filtering software programs. Indianchild.com has received the RSACi seal of approval. Third Party or Collaborative Ratings Database- A collection of web site ratings and reviews as submitted by members of the Internet community, representative of users' opinions, review groups, org etc. Third-Party Rating- A community of users reviewing content and casting a democratic vote for the labeling of that content. Refers to independent labeling service that associates labels with content created and distributed by others. URL-Uniform Resource Locator - The web address associated with each specific web page located on the Internet.
