braided hair extensions

Braided hair extensions maybe one of the ‘in things’ today but instances of their use can be tracked down to some Indian women decades ago. Does the Hindi word ‘paranda’ ring a bell?

Yes! ‘Parandas’ were nothing but braided hair extensions which have been used by Indian women, especially dancers, since years. They have of course - like the women and fashion themselves- evolved over the years to gain the ostentatious title of ‘braided hair extensions’.

Thick and curly hair is ideal to make braided extensions for obvious reasons- it is not only stronger but also forms thick braids leaving less scope for the scalp to peep.

In fact, braiding is just what African women with such hair resort to in order to make it manageable. Braids, twists, weaves, locks and twists would all come under braided hair extensions.

The bunch of names just mentioned suggest a bunch of things one can do with their hair using such extensions. Experimenting with braids sounds like and is loads of fun! ~ Author Mansi Ghuwalewala.
