highlighting dark hair

Are you bored of those dark tresses and you feel you need a change? Well, who said that you need to live with that naturally dark hair for the rest of your life? You could get your hair colored a different shade. The only problem being that if your hair is either black, dark brown or dark brunette, then just coloring your hair is not enough. What you need is a process known as highlighting of dark hair.

This process is listed in the inventory of beauty parlors that specialize in hair highlighting, amongst their other services.

The fact is that it is far more difficult to highlight dark shades of hair, than it is on lighter shades. The darker the hair, the harsher the process in terms of the products used.
Usually when a beautician is highlighting dark hair they first bleach the client’s hair using hair bleach. Once the hair is bleached, then the chosen highlight shade is applied. Hair specialists either use foil to highlight hair or then they use the highlighting cap, which has holes pierced into it and strands are pulled out and then colored.

The basic difference between highlighting and coloring one’s hair is that the terminology hair coloring applies to using the color on the entire hair. Highlighting on the other hand is adding color only on certain strands. The highlight shades are usually bright and have a metallic tint. If done well, then the highlight color looks as if the hair is lit up in those shades.

Highlighting is a common trend amongst Indian males and females, irrespective of the age group. Both males and females prefer blond highlights, though red highlights is another favorite. Some go for louder colors such as blue, purple, pink, etc., highlights.

Since highlighting dark hair requires the initial use of bleach, it leaves the hair coarse, dry and frizzy. In order to bring the hair back to its original texture, after-highlighting care is required. Usually certain spa treatments are recommended; or then one can oil their hair regularly. One can also purchase shampoos and conditioners specially manufactured to take care of dry and damaged hair.
