Every girl going to her first prom knows one of the first big events for her and is dressed up to the nines for the night. Her dress, her make-up, her hairstyle, has to be just right for the prom night. It is also the time when many girls will ‘put up their hair’ for the first time. Most young girls wear their hair short, or in braids. For a prom, they may want to look a little more grown-up, so they choose to put their hair into a bun or a bouffant.

The French Knot, or French Twist, is the most-preferred classic hairstyle for a prom. Neat and elegant, it looks nice from all angles and lets your face be illuminated without obstruction. A hairnet, especially one with tiny diamond-like studs one it also looks very elegant.

A nice perm or wave will keep the girlish look intact, while temporary hair mascara can give you the much-longed-for temporary change. Soft curls, held back by an elaborate clasp or pin, will also work wonders.

Girls who are more sporty and less fussy might want to stick to a ponytail or a half-pony at least. It also helps to keep hair out of the way. A ponytail can be fancied up with beads, shiny clips and studs. The most timeless look, of course, is to shampoo and rinse your hair with cold water, until it shines like satin. Then leave it loose.
