 what are liquid vitamins ?

Vitamins can be taken in both pill and liquid form. Liquid vitamins are being advertised quite zealously by those consider them to be a remarkable breakthrough of nutrition.
The absorption of liquid vitamins starts as soon as they are swallowed. The process is faster as compared to vitamin pills which have binders, fillers and preservatives used to give the pill its shape and longer shelf life.
Many types of vitamins are available in liquid form like Vitamin A, Vitamin B1, Vitamin B2, Vitamin B3, Vitamin C, Vitamin K etc. Also they come in a wide variety of flavours and also as multi-vitamins. Liquid Vitamins are also available combined with other nutrients that makes them a versatile source of nutrition.

Liquid vitamins are seen as an alternative for people who find pills disagreeable for any reason like taste, difficult to swallow and digest. This is true especially in the case of old people and children, for whom liquid vitamins are available in a variety of flavours.

Research evidence, it is claimed by advocates of liquid vitamins, suggests that the absorption rate for liquid vitamins is around 98% as compared to 10-20% for the pills, the reason being that liquid vitamins bypass the digestive process and get absorbed into the blood stream and into the cell.

As against the claims made for Liquid Vitamins, there are some doubts raised against the efficacy of liquid Vitamins. Also the legality of these claims has been questioned and successfully challenged in court.
Liquid vitamins are not bad but there is no breakthrough or miracle involved with them. The disadvantage of liquid vitamins is that the nutrients get destroyed when they come in contact with the stomach acids before they can reach the upper intestines where the absorption best happens. Liquid vitamins can not carry enzymes in a viable form for more than a day which reduces their potency as compared to pills which come with preservatives and an enteric coating.

The fact is that vitamin pills are still prescribed more regularly by doctors as compared to liquid vitamins.
