  Narrow gorges, deep valleys, tiny rivulets and an immaculate scenery. All are a part of hiking vacations. Hiking the word is commonly used to explore and take on an adventurous path. It is even called bush whacking and bush bashing. Or tramping is the common term for hiking in New Zealand. However while taking on an excursion of a high profile ‘trekking’ is the term then used.

With colossal Indian mountain ranges there are many destinations to choose for hiking vacations. Ladakh, Himalayas, Gharwal, the foothills of Sikkim and Zanskar are among the most extravagant hiking destinations. Sikkim is laden in the midst of lush greenery and spectacular mountain ranges. It is said that Sikkim is to mountains what Everest is to peaks. Its dense forests have given birth to exotic wildlife but only the adventurous experience the pure thrill of Sikkim.

Miniscule hamlets and monasteries are a site to see along the hike to Ladakh. The view of the countryside in the matrix of virgin earth is breathtaking. Besides Ladakh you can also hike your way to Himachal and Nepal. These are the most favourite spots as hiking is more fun as the weariness never seems to get the best of you. The fresh air and a cool climate can make you go on and on.

Hiking is normally misunderstood as a sport for the strong and extremely fit. Infact hiking is as good as walking so any individual can undertake it. But of course taking a hiking vacation at a higher altitude is equivalent to mountain climbing. Here, the weak at heart and people with blood pressure problems need to consult their doctor before they take up the challenge. Else let your lungs meet fresh air and your body a good walk on an easy hiking vacation.

Hiking vacations are seasonal as too cold weathers are not conducive. To trek in India may to October is just the right time for Ladakh. March to august you may visit Sikkim. As the monsoon is too dangerous for the Gharwal region, tackle it pre or post monsoon. A little research and the right equipment hiking vacations a smooth experience. And with an unrelenting spirit to move on and discover, you will gain a lifetime memory on any hiking vacation.
