February 28 -National Science Day
National Science Day is celebrated by Rashtriya Vigyan Evam Prodoyogiki Sanchar Parishad (RVPSP) also known as National Council for Science & Technology Communication of the Ministry of Science and Technology. National Science day (NSD) aims to popularize the benefits of scientific knowledge and practical appropriation in our society. February 28 marks the invention of the “Raman Effect” by the great Indian scientist Sir C.V. Raman on this very day in 1928. Sir Raman was a great scientist who also won Nobel Prize for his outstanding achievements. National Science Day is an important event in the calendar of India as this day honors all the scientists for their remarkable contributions to the cause of the nation.
Science has literally redefined the way we live. National Science Day provides a wonderful opportunity to remind us of importance and contribution of science to our society. Scientific innovations have definitely contributed a lot towards welfare of the society. Sir C.V. Raman had brought great honor and respect to the country with his a
chievements and awards. With the help of National Science Day, we are inspired to work in the field of science, engineering and technology.
On 28th February, various fascinating programs such as, exhibitions, debates, lectures and quiz competitions etc are organized all over the nation. Teachers and students participate in these programs to observe the National Science Day. The occasion also gives an opportunity to the country to showcase our competence in the field of science. Many young minds are motivated to pursue science as a career on this great day.
National Science Day tries to bring back the focus on issues related to science. The celebrations are marked with face to face interactions between public and science fraternity. 28th February reminds us to accelerate the pace of the development. The occasion holds special significance because of its focus on inculcating scientific temper among the school children.
