Republic Day is one of the important days in the history of India. We celebrate republic day every year on 26th January since 1950. This was the day when India became a truly sovereign state. Indian constitution which took 2 years, 18 months and 11 days to come into force, was unveiled on 26th January 1950. Indian republic state celebrates its sovereign status every year on the republic day. India battled hard for its freedom. After 200 years of struggle, India finally attained the freedom in 1947 but Indian attained the status of a true republic state only after Indian constitution came into existence. 26th of January is a national holiday. The historical day is celebrated with much fanfare all over the country.

The capital of the nation, New Delhi is the place if you want to witness the true celebration of republic day. The day makes us remember the sacrifice of the martyrs who died for the country in the freedom movement and the succeeding wars for the defense of sovereignty of the country. The occasion demands us to pause for a while and express our gratitude to the brave sons of the soil who sacrificed everything so that we could live in peace. This is a day that also reminds us to respect our freedom.

On republic day, the Indian president presents the awards of bravery to the people from the armed forces for their exemplary courage in the field. The medals are also awarded to civilians who have distinguished themselves by their various acts of gallantry in difficult circumstances. One of the highlights of this day is grand parade which is held in the capital, from the Rajghat, along the Vijaypath. The parade is joined by the different regiments of the army, the Navy and the Air force. Different cultural festivals are also organized on this day.

Republic day brings all of India together. Celebrations organized across the country represent diverse flavors and richness of the culture of the nation. Millions of people watch the grand parade and celebrations telecasted by the national television.
