Be it brand new vehicles or used cars, Japan is one of the largest exporters around.
Apart from the fact that the models themselves are very pretty and Japanese cars, be it a Toyota Corolla or a Honda City, are very popular, there are two chief reasons for this success.

The first is the fact that until recently, there was something called the ‘Shak-ken’ system in place in Japan. The law demanded that all cars undergo regular check-ups at authorized garages. This was mostly targeted at keeping pollution and traffic under control. But thanks to this law, maintaining old cars became a very expensive affair. So, after just 3 or 5 years, people would pack off their cars to used car markets, where they would be auctioned off.

Many of these cars are in excellent condition, but before buying used Japanese Vehicles, it is important to check what level their ‘grade’.

A grade between 98-100 would mean that the vehicle has never had any accidents, while a grade of ‘0’ would mean that it has had a bad accident.

There are many online resources to locate car sellers, suppliers of Japanese used car parts or for those who wish to import or export Japanese cars.

However, most of the Exporters of used Japanese cars & trucks, including major manufacturers, have set up their own distribution channels and prefer going through affiliated dealers. The manufacturers do not control the used car market but information regarding auctions is not so easily available.
