careers in public relations

Every brand owner wants universal publicity for its brand. Anyone and everyone should know about their brand. One way to do this is by putting ads in newspapers, television, radio and outdoor media. Or the other way is to build public relations.

This is a different ball game for a brand. Publicity is surely gained with absolutely no ad instead it is all verbal. Sometimes a press release is written and sent to all publications discerning the brand. For instance let’s take up a restaurant named AB.

Now AB is launching on 10th February and so the owner writes about the brand as to what you can get at the restaurant, the menu details, drinks details and the price range. He may include the USP of the restaurant like a light show every weekend or a big discount for women on Wednesdays.

Or another way to get publicity is to invite the who’s who of society, call the press and get them photographed with the backdrop of AB hotel. As there is a huge chunk of society that loves to read about stars and celebrities, automatically they will read about the launch of AB hotel. So if a celebrity is spotted at AB hotel then that hotel gains mileage and welcomes common people to feel like celebrity.

Besides propaganda public relations is a long lasting relationship between the public relations executive and the media. He should know all the main people of the publication through whom his release will be put into the paper. He should have contacts in various media’s like newspaper houses, magazines, radio stations etc. After all press releases are free and don’t cost a dime. Hence one has to come up with really substantial matter for a publication to consider it print worthy else he will just rubbish it and the brand loses a huge audience.

Being a public relations officer means you must have a good flair for English. Your language competency should be excellent to write releases and to push it further, as you will have to call up your allies and tell them why they should publish the release. Like you there are many releases the newspaper gets day in and day out. So what should be the reason they select your release and no other. Great facts, something novel and the compelling language are some of the underlying reasons.
