Swiss army knife

A Swiss army knife is a multi-purpose device that holds an assortment of blades, screwdrivers, scissors, files and other tools. All of these are stored in a series of spring-loaded compartments that have a single handle. However, the ones that are available in the market differ from those made for the Swiss military. The authentic military types are made from aluminum and not the red plastic of the commercially available ones.

Karl Elsener designed the first Swiss army knife in 1891. However, he did not perfect the spring-loaded model until 1897. Initially the Swiss soldiers received a tool containing a thick knife blade, two screwdrivers, a can opener and an awl. Today’s versions have been modified to contain many other tools, such as spoons, forks, toothpicks, compasses, magnifying glasses and lighters. Some advanced models also contain emergency surgical equipment.

In the initial training sessions Indian boys scouts and girl scouts are taught how to use the Swiss army knife. They put this tool to practical use when they go camping. It is a versatile tool that many people carry while they travel. It has proven a safety measure in case of self-defense too.
This tool is available in many stores in India. Since a large variety is available, the first step is to be sure as to for what purpose d you require it. For instance if you are always into exploring gadgets then you should purchase one with various types of screwdrivers. If you go trekking often then you will require one with devices required for out door camping.
