japan fashion trend

The fashion barometer reading shows that loose-fitting clothes worn in layers seem to be look of this summer season of 2004.  Fashion magazines are referring to this new look as “yurusurimu”  (loose, slim) where the wearer’s figure can be seen clearly.  However, what really seems to be a hit are jeans and chino trousers that are loose around the waist.  Even though the look is loose fitting, they tend to slim down towards the hem.

Besides, trousers, the other most popular trend is the loose-fitting mini skirt with frills and pleats. Wearing an over-sized sweater further enhances this look.  The hot colors that are a rage this season include pink, green, and orange in shades ranging from vivid to pastel.  The patterns range from paisleys, floral, retro and geometric prints.  Trench coats are also popular with mini skirts as it accentuates a feminine look as the skirts swirl and flair out as the wearer walks.

What’s really making a big comeback into the wardrobes of Japanese women is – the kimono. Popular with women in their 20s and 30s, the kimono has taken a different twist altogether.  Some women wear it with their western outfits like a coat and some wear it over s skirt with a broach on the obi. The good news is that kimonos are now available at an affordable price.

In the male fashion bastion, colors have transformed from the subdued black, navy, blue and beige jackets and tops to colorful polka dots and vivid checks with striped trousers.  Indeed, fashion themes in japan seem to be a colorful spectacle this year.
