How to write a short letter

Writing letters can sometimes be a daunting task when there is a lot you want to say. But remember the person reading it may not have all the time to read it. So write a short letter with the important points. It will be easy to read and remember what you wrote.

But since you are in a habit of writing a detailed letter, it may seem difficult to cut it short. So here’s some help on keeping it short and simple.

For all you know your letters might be getting lengthier since you may be repeating things. So cut off repetition.

Avoid giving minute details. Just mention where you went or what you bought.

Don’t go overboard while explaining how you feel about the weather.

Do not write things a person may not be interested in. Don’t discuss the details of a business deal with your parents who may not understand the jargons of your industry.

Avoid telling stories mention the episode and move on.

If you are writing to a colleague, your boss or an acquaintance keep it very short.

Go through the letter once you have written it. You will know what you can cut short.

Do remember it’s a letter and not your personal diary. You can even break your letter into three parts, an introduction, the main message and conclude it with the final message and include the greetings.

Breaking a letter into parts can make it easier for you to write and you can write letters to multiple people in a short time.

Now that you have the tricks on making your letters shorter try them out in the next letter you write.
