There are quite a few places in and around Mumbai that are yet to be polluted with overdose of modernity. One such wild but unexplored beauty is Dudhni. Despite offering very best of nature, the place remains loyal to its original beauty. Dense forests and twittering birds make Dudhni a perfect weekend gateway. You can safely give a miss to some of the other popular hill stations in favor of Dudhni. If you are looking for a sense of calmness and tranquility, you better stay for a while at Dudhni.
Dudhni is actually a tribal land largely unaffected with what is going in modern world. It will take you no more than five hours to reach Dudhni from Mumbai. Situated in the Dadra and Nagar Haveli, the drive to Dudhni takes place via Silvassa. The moment you reach Dudhni, you will be welcomed by rain clouds and heavenly blue sky. This is a tiny hamlet, quite aloof and happy in its own isolated existence. The wooded mountains give this place a certain aesthetic appeal.
If you have been to Dal Lake in Kashmir, you will experience a sense of déjà vu while visiting Madhuban Dam in Dudhni. You will be offered a Shikara ride on the large waterfront of the dam. The unexplored beauty of Dudhni comes to the fore while visiting places in and around Dudhni and Silvassa. Since Silvassa itself is a busy tourist place, visitors prefer to stay in relatively quaint places like Dudhni and Khanvel. The latter one is just 20 Kms away from Silvassa.
Dudhni is a perfect picnic spot for lovers of water sports. You can relish indulging in jet skis, water scooting and speed boats. You can stay at government rest houses and cottages that provide comfortable accommodation.
As far as the question of reaching Dudhni is concerned, first you need to go to Silvassa which is about 180 km away from Mumbai. If you prefer a train journey then you will need to get down at Vapi which is 17 km from Silvassa and then take taxi to Dudhni. The ride from Silvassa to Dudhni itself is a beautiful experience. You will able to enjoy road covering forests, slopes, lots of bends along the way and lush green nature.
