Surrounded by lush green hills of the Sahyadris, Lonavala is the most popular weekend spot especially for people from Mumbai and Pune. Lonavala is known for its green valleys, pristine white waterfalls, picturesque scenery, beautiful vistas and a lot more. The hills of Lonavala once belonged to the brave Maratha rulers who often practiced guerrilla warfare against the Mughal rulers. Today, lakhs of people visit Lonavala to unwind and de-stress themselves. Especially during the monsoon, Lonavala becomes absolutely breath-taking. Nature is washed with rain showers which adds beauty to the scenery.

You can visit the Karla and Bhaja caves which date back to 2nd century BC. These caves showcase one of the oldest and finest examples of Buddhist rock cut temples. Another attraction is Bushy dam which is a must visit especially during monsoon when the dam water overflows. This water flows so beautifully that is a sight to see. There are tourists who specially go to Lonavala just to get wet in the rains and enjoy the sight of the water at Bushy dam.
Apart from the caves and the dam, Lonavala also has many artificial lakes like Tungarli and Pawna. Another tourist spot is the Ryewood Park that is a landscape area giving you a glimpse of nature in its purest form. Popularly known as Vagdari, Tiger's Leap is the echo point in Lonavala. Nagphani and Tiger's Leap are close to each other so one can visit them together. Nagphani, also known as Duke's Nose, and is an ideal spot for adventurers.
Lonavala is famous for its chikki, fudge and other sweets. There are many shops that sell these items and one can buy them at the market place easily.
Lonavala is 130 km by railway and 90 km by road from Mumbai. There are regular buses that go to Lonavala from Mumbai. You can also take a train and reach Lonavala from Mumbai in about two hours.
