Nashik Shirdi

 

Located in the northwestern part of Maharashtra, Nasik is a major city known for its religious importance and grapes. The place offers you a pleasant climate and picturesque surroundings. It is situated on the banks of river Godavari. Nasik is considered as a holy city because of its temples and proximity to Shirdi. The world renowned Kumbh Mela takes place in this throbbing city every 12 years and attracts lakhs of tourists from all over the world. Nasik is considered as a land of temples. Among the temples, Trimbakeshwara Temple is major pilgrimage site for Hindu devotees. One of the 12 sacred jyotirlingas in India, the temple is devoted to Lord Shiva and was built in 1730 by Baji Rao Peshwa. The temple has unique combination of both Malwa and Meru style in its architecture.

Religious tourists make sure to visit Panchavati in the northern part of Nasik. It is believed that Lord Rama, Sita and Lakshman stayed at Panchavati for some time during their ‘vanvas’. Saptashringi Devi Temple is a popular religious travel destination in Nasik. Saptashringi is believed to be one of the forms of Shakti.

Among other major temples in Nasik, Kalaram temple, Sundernarayan Temple, Modakeshwar Temple etc attracts thousands of pilgrims every year. Visitors should also ensure to visit Sita Gupha which according to the legends is the place from where Ravana abducted Sita. Other major places in Nasik worth visiting are Dudhsagar waterfalls and Pandav Leni Caves.

Nashik is 185 Kms away from Mumbai and 220 Kms from city of Pune.

A visit to Nasik will not be completed without traveling to holy place of Shirdi which is approximately 90 Kms away from Nasik. It is known for mystic saint Sai Baba. The place houses a big marble temple which attracts devotees from all over India and abroad. Shirdi is one religious destination where you will find devotees from all sects and religions of India. Try to visit the temple on Thursdays and witness the grand view of Aarati and prayers.

Other holy places in and around Shirdi are, Samadhisthan where Sai Baba breathed his last, eternal Dhuni (fireplace), Dwarkabai Mosque, Ashrama of Sri Upasani Maharaj and Sri Godavari Mataji at Sakori. Vistors can stay at Dharmashala provided by Sai Baba Trust called Sai Baba Sansthan.
