Mumbai is a city of dreams. In this city that never sleeps, there are thousands of people who come to realize their dreams. Mumbai is the commercial capital of the country. It contributes significantly to the country’s revenue share. It has the country's largest production houses, stock exchanges and offices of some of the esteemed companies of the world. Amidst the chaos and the clutter, Mumbai offers inexplicable opportunities that make this city pulsating.
For a tourist, Mumbai offers several beaches, temples, shopping malls, museums and parks. Also, the night life of Mumbai is simply dazzling with discotheques, bars, lounges and pubs. You cannot miss the Gateway of India which is one of the major tourist spots of the city. Gateway of India is a 26 meters high stone archway. It is the first landmark that a tourist sees when arriving by ship. The Gateway of India was built to welcome King George V and Queen Mary to India in 1911. It was designed by Writtet in the 16th century. Today, thousands of visitors visit the Gateway of India and enjoy the boat ride alongside.
Alongside the Gateway of India, one can also visit the Elephanta Caves which is accessible by boat. The 7th century cave temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. This was a flourishing place of pilgrimage till a few centuries ago. It has a magnificent 18 feet high, three-headed idol of Lord Shiva.
Yet another tourist attraction of Mumbai is the Chowpatty Beach. This crowded beach is an extremely popular beach where hundreds of people come with their families to enjoy themselves. During festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi, idols of Lord Ganesh are immersed in the waters and thousands of people come to this beach to celebrate the occasion. Besides, Chowpatty also offers some of the best roadside foods that Mumbai is known for; bhelpuri, sevpuri, pani puri, ragda pattice and pav bhaji. You could also enjoy the kulfi (ice cream) and the ice-golas. Apart from the Chowpatty beach, Mumbai also has Juhu beach which is a 5 km long beach with lots of coconut trees. It is yet again a popular spot for the Mumbaikars and the tourists. It has a number of hotels and restaurants as well.
One can also visit the Rajabai Tower which is a gothic clock tower located in the South of Mumbai. The tower stands at a height of 85 m and is adorned with oriental figures which adds to its beauty. The tower also has one of the best stained glass windows in the city. The Rajabai tower was designed by an English architect named Sir George Gilbert Scott.
Apart from these, the Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari Film City is also a popular part of Mumbai tourism. Film City is the largest Studio Complex in Mumbai, which was set up by the Government of Maharashtra in 1977. Film City studios complex has natural spots to offer to the film producers such as gardens, forests, hills, valleys, lakes, open spaces, etc. Film City offers 16 well equipped air- conditioned and soundproof studios. So many films and television serials have been shot here.
Other popular Mumbai tourist spots include the Haji Ali Mosque, Swani Narayan temple in Dadar, Afghan Church, Nehru Science Center, Nehru Planetarium, Kamla Nehru Park, Hanging gardens, Essel World and Water Kingdom amusement parks, Sanjay Gandhi National Park etc.
