EVENTS TO THEIR CREDIT
GARBAGE SEPERATION 20/6/97: A rally was held at Hiranandani complex (Mumbai) to highlight segregation of garbage.
CULTURAL MEET 27/7/97: A meet of three schools for a stage show on environment along with a tree plantation drive (Powai English High school, Kendriya Vidyalaya, I.I.T.& Gandhinagar, Tirandas Municipal School)
CLEAN UP THE WORLD DAY 20/8/97: A programme with CBC & Neem foundation to promote awareness & plantation of neem trees. TRAINING PROGRAMME 22/11/97:
A workshop was organized for 300 trainee teachers at B.T.T.C. (sponsored by Anubhav, Camlin, Hotel Oberoi & Cadbury Schweppes) WORKSHOP 12/1/98: A workshop was held at MMRDA on the role of OASIS.
MELA 14/2/98: OASIS actively participated in the New millennium mela held by CBC ACTION RESEARCH: MARCH'98 TO MARCH'99: The Powai lake problem was taken up. The PEACE committee was formed & the whole issue was looked into in great detail. Health of roadside trees was undertaken as a study to see the impact of air pollution on the physical health of trees in 4 zones - forest, residential, vehicular, & industrial.
IN APRIL'97 THE YOUNG NATURALISTS WAS LAUNCHED UNDER THE UMBRELLA OF OASIS. COOL SUMMER FUN APRIL 18TH TO APRIL 25TH, 1999 (WORLD EARTH DAY & WORLD HERITAGE DAY): An eight-day mega event was held with a series of on the spot competitions like Drawing, Mono-acting Making Eco-ventive products, etc based on the theme of environment. Institutions like McDonalds, Orchid Ecotel, L.T. Olympia, Trailblazers, Maxtouch, Camlin,Ravalgaon Sweets & Microcity Club have supported the event. Ms Priya Tendulkar graced the felicitation day.
WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY 5TH JUNE 1999: An environmental skit titled 'A JOURNEY FROM BOMBAY TO MUMBAI' was performed by young children trained by The Young Naturalists. A tree plantation drive followed the event.
WORLD POPULATION DAY 11TH JULY 1999: A one-day programme held on with on the spot contest viz. Essay writing, slogan on poster & fancy dress. This programme was followed by a health exhibition & a street play based on the theme of population addressing 3000 slum dwellers at Khar Danda
WILD LIFE EVENT 13TH NOV. 1999: This very meaningful event focused on imparting information on flora & fauna of forests -an excellent slide show by WWF followed by a quiz contest on the same. A live snake show was organized to remove the fear of wild animals & how non-interference best works with them!!
ECO-FRIENDLY MELA 20,21,22 DEC 1999 (WORLD CONSERVATION DAY): A unique fair of Eco friendly substitutes were made available to the general public under one roof so as to enhance conservation of resources. A live demonstration of auto emission reduction kit was arranged. Crazy Auto Kit & Orchid Ecotel sponsored this event.
SPREAD THE MESSAGE CONTEST 28TH DEC 1999: This innovative way of spreading the environmental message was launched on the life members first meet organized at Great Punjab hall at Bandra. It was a fun - filled party where folders, gifts and t - shirts were distributed to the kids.
NATIONAL YOUTH DAY 12/1/2000: To observe this day an essay contest on the topic of "what I would like to become as a youth & why?" was announced.
WORLD FORESTRY DAY (21ST MARCH) 19/3/2000: forests are vanishing away in the time taken to snap our fingers. On the spot contests with themes such as damages to the forest, I belong to the forest, were announced along with demonstration on nurturing plants and recycling paper. This programme saw a response of 607 children. The NSS group of the Thadomal Shahani college were active volunteers during the course of the event. Domino's, Esselworld, Monginis and other organizations supported the event.
COOL SUMMER FUN II (WORLD EARTH DAY - AND WORLD HERITAGE DAY-) 20 / 21 APRIL 2000: A two - day event was held focussing on themes like endangered and extinct species of animals, heritage sites of Mumbai, wonders of the world and folk tunes of various nations. This programme saw a response of 450 kids per day.
WORLD ANTI - SMOKING DAY (31ST MAY): To observe this day a poetry competition was announced on the topic of " Why smoking is harmful?"
WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY (5TH JUNE) - POWAI LAKE TRIP 3/6/2000: The 'Green Adventure', a trip to Powai lake was organized as an endeavour to reach out to children to have first hand experience of afforestation, deforestation, acquifer levels, sewage treatment, siltation and weeding. The Hiranandani Gardens was visited to establish these concepts and the trip received support from The Taj Group Of Hotels, the MSAA and the Hiranandani Gardens. EPILOGUE
