Babies Hiccups Vomiting Colic
- Many babies get hiccups.
It doesn't worry them and usually stops after they burp.
- It's normal for most
babies to spill out a little milk after feeding.
- Sometimes babies vomit
if they have a cold or sore ears. If your baby vomits a lot it can be
dangerous so see a doctor immediately.
- Colic describes babies
who are upset after a feed, usually later in the day. They scream, double
up in pain and clench their fists.
- Little is known about
colic, which usually affects babies between two weeks and four months. If
you are concerned, take your baby to see your doctor.
- What you can do to help
if your baby has colic:
- Feed baby calmly and,
if possible, not too quickly.
- Burp baby after each
feed.
- Keep baby warm but not
hot.
- Lie baby on its side
and roll a rug up against the baby's stomach to give gentle pressure.
- Learn baby massage.
- There are commercial
medicines available from chemists which may help. Check them out with your
doctor or child health nurse first.
