Becoming A Brother Or Sister
- Preparing a child for a
new baby brother or sister is important.
- It's important to tell
toddlers and young children about the coming baby, but perhaps not too far
in advance. Nine months is a long time for a toddler to wait. A good time
may be when your tummy becomes noticeably bigger.
- Be truthful. Tell the
child the new baby won't be able to play for a long time.
- Make the child feel
extra needed.
- Things to think about:
- A children's story
book can be a fun way to tell your child some of the things which happen
during a pregnancy.
- If the child wants to,
let them help you unpack baby's clothes or prepare the bedroom.
- Talk about babies.
- Take your child to
visit friends who have new babies.
- Reassure your child
that although things may be different they'll be okay.
